Story tiles can be hung on the wall like a painting or integrated into a kitchen or bathroom earthenware composition, it can also be used as a simple decorative object or trivet. At the end of the 16th century, ceramic tiles born in the Middle East, reach the Netherlands. The first pottery makers established themselves in Antwerp, then after the sacking of their city, in Delft which quickly became a major center of ceramics. Delft ceramic tiles are renowned for their narrative decors in white and blue mimicking the colors of Ming porcelain. Dutch designer and artist Marga van Oers reinvents this Dutch ceramic tile art with her Storytiles. Since 2013, its cut-out characters, painted decorations, colorful graphics, meticulously affixed to its earthenware tiles, tell mini stories: those of childhood and the tale’s suspended time.
